PARTIALLY
FIELD HORIZONTAL CYLINDER
1) To
calculate the volume of a partially or half field horizontal cylinder first calculate the
angle α
in degrees. Any units of length can be used, but they must be the same for H, R
and L. the liquid volume.
Where;
V= volume
R = Radius
L = Length of Tank
Note:
- This formula may be used for any depth of the liquid between zero and the full tank.
- If it is greater than R SinαCosα will be negative and thus will add numerically to α/57.30.
2) The volume of head must be calculated separately
and added to the volume of the cylindrical portion of the tank.
3) The four types of heads must frequently used are
the standard dished head, torispherical or ASME head, ellipsoidal head, and
hemispherical head.
4) A partially filled horizontal tank requires the
determination of the partial volume of the heads.
5) The approximately volume for partially filled
(axis horizontal) standard ASME and ellipsoal heads.
Where;
V= volume
R = Radius
H= Depth of Liquid
6)
When a tank volume cannot be calculated or when
greater precision is required, calibration may be necessary. This is done by
drying (or filling) the tank and measuring the volume for liquid.
7)
The measurement may made by weighing by a
calibrated fluid meter, or by repeatedly filling small measuring tanks which
have been calibrated by weight.
